Contact Page Mistakes That Cost You Leads (And How to Fix Them)

Your contact page should be the easiest page to get right. Yet most small businesses make these 5 critical mistakes that silently kill conversions.

By Ari Rosenberg, Wix Legend Partner

Someone found your website. They liked what they saw. They clicked "Contact."

Then... nothing. They left without reaching out.

Your contact page should be the easiest conversion on your site. Yet it's where most small businesses lose leads.

Here are the 5 biggest contact page mistakes—and how to fix them.

Mistake 1: Making People Fill Out a Novel

You're asking for too much information upfront.

Bad contact form:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Email
  • Phone
  • Company
  • Industry
  • Budget
  • Project timeline
  • Detailed project description
  • How did you hear about us?

Why it's bad: Every field you add gives people another reason to give up. That 10-field form? Plenty of your leads will quit halfway through.

The Fix: Ask for 3 fields max.

Good contact form:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Message (optional)

That's it. You can get details on the call.

Even better: Skip the form entirely. Use a scheduling link (Calendly) so they book a call instantly.

Mistake 2: No Clear Reason to Contact You

Your contact page just says "Contact Us" with a form. That's not compelling.

Why it's bad: Visitors need a reason to take action NOW instead of later (which means never).

The Fix: Tell them what happens next.

Good headline: Let's Fix or Build a Website That Gets You Leads

Good description: "Book a free 15–30 minute call. I'll look at your site, ask a few questions, and tell you exactly what to prioritize. No sales pitch—just clear direction."

Now they know:

  • What to expect (a 15–30 minute call)
  • What they get (clear advice)
  • What they DON'T get (sales pitch)

Mistake 3: Hiding Your Contact Information

Your form is there. But no phone number, no email address, no physical address.

Why it's bad: Some people prefer to call or email. If they can't find that info, they'll bounce.

The Fix: Make it easy to reach you ANY way they prefer.

What to include:

  • Email address (clickable mailto: link)
  • Phone number (clickable tel: link on mobile)
  • Physical address (if you have one)
  • Hours (if applicable)
  • WhatsApp or chat link (if you use it)

Offer multiple contact methods. Let THEM choose.

Mistake 4: No Social Proof on Contact Page

They're about to reach out. This is when trust matters most.

Why it's bad: Without trust signals, they'll hesitate. "Is this company legit? Will they actually respond?"

The Fix: Add trust-building elements to your contact page.

What to include:

  • Star ratings (how many five-star reviews you have)
  • Response time ("I reply within one business day")
  • Client logos or testimonials
  • Quick stats (how many projects you've completed)

Even one trust signal helps.

Mistake 5: Not Telling Them What Happens After They Submit

They fill out the form. Hit submit. Then... silence.

Why it's bad: They're left wondering: "Did it go through? When will I hear back? Should I follow up?"

The Fix: Set clear expectations.

Add a "What Happens Next" section:

What Happens Next:

  1. You submit the form (or book a call)
  2. I respond within 24 hours with next steps or to confirm our call time
  3. We discuss your project and I give you a clear assessment

Bonus Fix: Show a confirmation message after form submission.

Good confirmation message: "Thanks for reaching out! I'll reply within 24 hours. Check your inbox (and spam) for my email."

Bonus Mistake: Slow Response Time

This isn't technically a "page" issue, but it's killing your conversions.

The problem: Someone submits your form. You reply 3 days later. They've already hired someone else.

The Fix:

  • Set up instant email notifications for form submissions
  • Respond within 1 hour during business hours (seriously)
  • If you can't respond fast, use auto-responders: "Thanks for reaching out. I'll get back to you within 24 hours."

Even better: Use a scheduling tool (Calendly). They book a time slot. No back-and-forth. No waiting.

The Ideal Contact Page Structure

Here's what a high-converting contact page looks like:

Above the Fold:

  1. Headline: Clear statement of what happens when they reach out
  2. Description: 2-3 sentences explaining the process
  3. Primary CTA: Scheduling link or simple 3-field form

Below the Fold:

  1. Contact methods: Email, phone, address (if applicable)
  2. What happens next: 3-step process
  3. Trust signals: Reviews, response time, credentials
  4. Embedded scheduler: If you use Calendly, embed it directly
